Vestry Meeting Minutes – October 2026

October 2026

Vestry Minutes - Monday, October 12, 2026
Reverend Robert Carlson presiding, Rich Gabrielson (2), Deb Marrer (2), Brian Erle (1), and Maui Palmiter (1)

The meeting began at 1:05 with noonday prayer. September. minutes were approved.

Financial Report:
The Vanguard investment account, known as the Rector Fund, had $15,000 as of the end of the month, and additional contributions totaling $11,607.94 were received in the first two weeks of October.

The total income from gifts and donations placed the parish ahead of the budget forecast. Discussion also covered expenses, including a charge for recent supply priests and the bishop's visit. Utilities and maintenance costs were lower in the warmer months. Pledges are down quite a bit for the year.

Rich also shared information about the GAFCON conference in 2028 and mentioned considering using the Vanguard account for scholarships

Property Report:
We discussed Spruce Up Day, noting that tiles and branches need to be properly bundled and disposed of, with some items going to the landfill. Brian offered to take care of disposal. Deb discussed issues with the furnace pilot light and oven going out (at different times) Rich also brought up that the front door needs to be double checked every time it is closed, because it has been accidentally left open due to the tricky lock.

Ministry Safe:
Rich also addressed the need for Ministry Safe certifications for several individuals including Rowan, Sarah, and Virginia, and expressed concern about delays (and needing to be in compliance with this requirement)

Update on Correspondence with David Szomore: (regarding interest in becoming Rector)
Rich provided an update on correspondence with David Szomor, noting that the budget information and compensation figures have been sent and we are waiting for his reply. He included a printed timeline of communication.

Venue Fund and Event Updates:
Emily Hutchinson decided to hold her concert elsewhere due to union musician requirements but will still have her birthday party at the venue on November 22nd.

Cranmer and Rectory/Groundskeeping Discussion:
We all discussed the communication challenges between all parties. There was prayerful discussion about the Cranmer Fellowship agreement and responsibilities in general. (as the previous agreement has finally been signed by all parties after a year of waiting) The Vestry felt the need to schedule an in-person meeting with Matt Kennedy and Jonathan Groves in the near future to prayerfully discuss how we move forward with this arrangement, and if a new agreement needs to be written up.

Building Access and Maintenance Protocols:
Some discussion on this subject led us to agree that Deb Marrer will be the point person for all property issues from here on in. She will make all final decisions on service calls and maintenance within the church and rectory. The Vestry decided to review and potentially limit building access codes, particularly for non-vestry members, and to consider explaining the security protocols in the church bulletin or at the annual meeting.

The meeting ended at 3:20 with prayer.
