Draft of Vestry Minutes
Monday Aug 17, 2026
Present: Rev. Bob Carlson, presiding; Rich Gabrielson (2); Deb Marrer (2) Brian Erle (1); and Maui Palmiter (1)
The meeting opened at 1:05 with Vestry reading a portion from Noonday Prayer.
The minutes from the July meeting were approved.
Finance Report:
The July Finance report was submitted by Cathy Smales. We seem to be holding steady with finances although the O'Connor investments did decrease this month. Utilities have gone down a bit this summer. The bill for the replacement roof has been paid by Cathy. This has been offset by a large donation to the church.
Property Report:
Fall Spruce-up Date: We chose the date of Saturday 9/26 from 9-1 for our St. Andrews outdoor spruce-up. A sign up sheet will be put up and we will focus on cleaning windows, weeding, pruning bushes, cutting down the lilies, and garage and shed cleanup. (Also possibly repainting the handicap ramp floor) Rich will use his drone to inspect the gutters on the church to check for debris and we will decide how to clean those out.
Old Business:
Ministry Safe Training Status:
Debra is collecting the last of the Ministry Safe certificates from Tal and Sarah.
Update Job Posting for ACNA Job Board:
Brian and Maui completed the new listing which is currently posted on the ACNA website. It will need to be updated every 2 months. We had a discussion about our future rector, and after speaking to Reverend Bob we agreed that we should prayerfully consider plans to transition to a new rector or vicar by Advent 2027. Rich will speak to Howard about this potential date, and we will focus on how and when to present this to the congregation. (and also fundraise/invest for a new full-time rector salary) We will continue to trust God's plan and pray for St Andrews future.
Sustaining/Matching Fund Plan: There was also a lengthy discussion about how to set up the matching fund that Ted Wolf presented last month. Although the original idea was a long-term plan, our biggest need right now is a full-time rector’s salary. The future of St. Andrews revolves around being able to pay this salary in advance, and we need time to save and also ask the congregation's help. Rich made a motion to use both Ted Wolf's donation and the Memorial Fund monies to set up an investment account with the Vanguard Fund (fiduciary). Brian seconded the motion and all were in favor. The motion passed.
We had previously voted to put aside $500/mo toward the new rector's salary (and that money will also be moved to this fund)
Cranmer Agreement:
Jason Carlson has reviewed the agreement and we need to make a few minor changes about Timothy's responsibility with yard work in the fall. There should be further clarity about the cost that is going to be passed on to Good Shepherd for the work done by the outside vendor. Once those changes are made there will be a discussion and approval by all parties.
Mid-year Finance and Giving update:
Rich still needs to speak about this during announcements, and also email the mid-year reports to parishioners.
Recital date in December:
Emily Hutchinson requested use of the church sanctuary to put on a small music/performing arts recital the evening of Sat. December 8. The Vestry agreed that there would be no charge for the use of the space.
New Business:
Schedule for Bob's absence:
Reverend Bob will be overseas for 4 Sundays, (returning for Sunday September 27 service). We will have Morning Prayer with Dan Self preaching. Jonathan will cover the other 3 Sundays.
Virginia Wetherbee - Catechesis and Soup Kitchen
Virginia has offered to help with both Catechesis of the Good Shepherd and also Tuesday’s Table soup kitchen. All agreed that she should be allowed to participate in those two areas. Any possible conflicts would be brought to Reverend Bob's attention and handled at the time.
Colegrove Bequest - authorization:
The Vestry made a resolution to have Rich represent the church so that paperwork could be started to transfer the bequeathed funds from Jim Colegrove's estate. The amount of the gift is unknown.
Meeting adjourned at 2:50 p.m. in prayer.
