Vestry Meeting Minutes – March 2026

Vestry Minutes

Monday March 16, 2026

Present: Rev. Bob Carlson, presiding; Rich Gabrielson (2); Deb Marrer (2) Brian Erle (1); and Maui Palmiter (1)

The meeting opened at 1:10 with Vestry reading a portion from Noonday Prayer.

The minutes from the February meeting were approved.

Finance Report:

The February Finance report was submitted by Cathy Smales. We noticed that utilities for both the church and rectory are way up due to increasing costs in fuel and cold weather. There were 3 questions on line items. The first was a question regarding figures in Salaries Expense 6015 (Vicar Interim) for $1,000 and 6010 (Rector) for $2,300. The second question was under Office Expenses and Supplies in line 7200 (Misc) for $955.23. The third question was about how to note and keep track of the utilities expenses in the rectory (which are paid by us initially and then reimbursed by Good Shepherd)

Property Report:

Rectory Furnace:

The furnace has been working well since Arctic Bear brought in a bigger circuit board panel for the furnace. There have been no issues since.

Church Furnace:

Petcosky and Sons came while we were having our meeting to look at the church furnace which was making loud noises. They determined that we will need new bearings for the pump and the parts will arrive in about a week. They felt the furnace would work in the meantime.

Fire Inspection:

We unfortunately did not pass the town fire code inspection, and need to do some repairs before they come to reinspect. The ceiling will be repaired in the storage area along with fixing the light fixture, which is currently hanging down.  Carbon Monoxide detector will be put in by the kitchen, and a new glow in the dark exit sign will be put by the exit near the Catechesis area. (The old non-working sign will be removed in the near future)

New Windows in Music Room:

Deb has signed the contract and put a deposit of $2,781 (half of total) out of the Everbank acct. for Window Town to order the new windows/supplies which should take 2-3 weeks to come in. They will notify us so we can coordinate a time to do the job. (which will take 5-6 hours). Before this occurs, all items, music, shelving, etc. needs to be moved 5-6 ft away from the windows.

Safety and Security:

The boys had requested an extra front Rectory door key which Deb was able to give to them.

Deb is also going to remove both Joan and Wayne's door codes at the church.

Rectory Paint Request:

Jubal sent us three more paint color selections for his bedroom, and the Vestry decided that we all liked the SAND color which was the most neutral. Deb will let him know he can go forward with purchasing the paint.

Spotlights above Altar:

Mike noticed that the 2 spotlights/floodlights above the piano on the altar are both burned out. They are quite high and Brian offered to change them with the help of Mason.

Downspout Heat Tape:

Rich has been working on the heat tape and gutter issues with the downspout. We are hopeful that his efforts will solve the problem!

Old Business:

Ministry Safe:

All Vestry members, along with Craig, Debra and Sarah still need to complete the Ministry Safe online program and receive their bi-annual certification from the Ministry Safe website. Since most of our certifications expired we agreed this needs to be done in the near future.

New Business:

Synod (May 27-29):

Reverend Bob, Joyce, Rich and Deborah G. will all be attending Synod this year. Brian is a “maybe” due to upcoming work. Rich asked if Joyce would be willing to be a delegate for St. Andrews, which would give us three delegates.

New Prospect for Vicar:

Reverend Michael Bridge from Michigan has shown interest in St. Andrews, and we received his request last month from the Bishop. Rich plans on sending him our current job posting, parish annual report, and a slideshow so that he can get a better sense of things here at St. Andrews.

Holy Week:

We discussed that we should have one Good Friday service at noon, and Sunday Easter Service at 10:00 a.m. Good Shepherd will be offering services through holy week on Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday evening.

Continued Tues. AM Bible Study:

After we completed our study on the Ten Commandments, Reverend Bob suggested a study on 1 Peter. This new study will begin on Tuesday April 14th at the usual 9:30 time.

Wetherbee Request:

We discussed the situation and how to move forward. We agreed to keep the issue in deep prayer.

Meeting adjourned at 3:30 p.m. in prayer.
